If you follow me on Instagram, you know I received Super Saver Ombre from Red Heart yarns!
My Ombre is “Scuba” and I paired it with Red Heart Super Saver in “Charcoal”. I love the brightness of the blues. I also love the darkness of the charcoal, which really balances it out! Super Saver Ombre changes so calmly and is beyond beautiful. I absolutely love the way it works with this vest!
Before I could come up with the ideal project, I noticed a new FREE crochet pattern posted on Yarnutopia, by Nadia Fuad; for this stunning Spring Sun Mandala Vest. <– link to free crochet pattern!
The Spring Mandala Vest is a free pattern and is extremely easy to follow. I had no issues completing this vest in the same amount of time as the designer. Although my 20 hours was spread over about a weeks time! I used two skeins of the Ombre and 1 skein of the Charcoal. I do have a little left from both yarns.
I also think this vest would be Ah-MAZE-Zing with a wide hood and even sleeves attached!
Thank you Red Heart Yarns for the beautiful yarn and thank you Nadia Fuad for the amazing pattern!
Amazingly beautiful!! What. A talent you have!
This is saved to home screen and will be my next project.
Greetings!
I noticed in your finished product you have a buttoned front. I really like that look and believe it would fit better for my larger bust size.
How did you achieve this look?
I am currently on Rnd 18, seems like there wouldn’t be any changes to pattern until the last few rounds.
I’m fairly new to crochet, this is the second wearable pattern I have tried. The first was a circle vest design, that didn’t fit correctly when finished, cried when I had to frog it!
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
On the last round, I tried it on to see where the buttons would be best on my size. Then I added the loops on the other side with CHains while finishing up the last round.
I really like the buttons too. Really seemed to finish off the look for me!
Thank you!
How did you add the button’s?
whenever I crochet a piece of clothing I ALWAYS try the garment on when I get to the armholes to make sure it fits. If it doesn’t I only need to frog a few rows instead of realizing it doesn’t fir after finishing it off and having to frog the entire thing. Saves me a lot of frustration in the long run.
Hi Corina,
I was wondering if you might be willing to measure the inner mandala of your jacket? I’m trying to fix a manadala jacket that I made from another pattern using this one but I need to see where to start salvaging the mandala I’ve got at the moment. Anyway, if you have some time, would you be able to measure the diameter through round 10, which is before the open chain work, and also through round 15, which is after the open chain work, pretty please? Thank you in advance!
I need a visual on how you did the button area. How you described how you did it doesn’t help because I need visuals to understand how to do it
Have just run across this pattern. Absolutely beautiful, and I agree that it would finish off perfectly with the wide hood and sleeves. have you by chance worked this tweak out?
I felt the same way when I found this pattern. I was super excited and couldn’t wait to start. I made the first one in a solid sky blue color and made up a pattern for long sleeves. This last summer I bought a bunch of ombre yarn in three different colors, scuba, spearmint, and true blue. I kind of have an obsession with blue. all those vests used about three skeins of the yarn, but I also added rows because I’m 5’9″ and wanted a long vest. all of them turned out really well and instead of buttons I found a pattern in a really old crochet magazine of my mother’s for frog closures, so I used those instead of buttons. frogs are easy to make and add a simple elegance to the pattern. the first one I did only took me three days to complete. the subsequent ones took about a week for each. I love the way the ombre works into the vest. I absolutely adore this pattern. the only issue I had was starting the armholes on the first one, but after watching the video I was fine. it’s amazing that I even remembered how to do the armholes for the other ones.
I’ve been really obsessed with circular cardigans/vests for a little while. I’m in no way a beginner. I started crocheting when I was eight and at the time this comment was written I am eighteen. been crocheting most of my life and I’m glad that I learned at such an early age. It made the entire craft way easier in the long run.
